The cost of obesity scares →
This is just one example of the collateral damage that the constant trumpeting of the “obesity epidemic” does to people:
I know someone who is fat and does have a number of obesity-related conditions: type II diabetes and high blood pressure. This same person went through a period of cancelling doctor appointments and generally felt that they were waste of their time. Why would they do that? Because they did not see themselves as a person who had medical conditions that deserved treatment, but rather, saw themselves as a person who was “bad” by “letting” themselves get fat, so they now deserved to die slowly suffering. When people start treating illness as “punishment” for being a bad person ‘cause you are fat this suffering due to disease then becomes something that you deserve. It’s what you get for being so disgusting.
This attitude is a literal killer: if people do not get proper treatment for diabetes they can die. Yes, this means fat people too.
This same person told me they feel victimized by their diseases and isolate themselves because they cannot stand the judgment of people, the judgment and stigma of being fat with type II diabetes.
This is the damage that fat stigma and the attendant healthism that sometimes comes with it as well: it can kill.
